Location and Transport Links in Freshwater
Freshwater is located thirteen kilometers east of Sydney’s CBD. Though it was formally called Harbord, it belongs to the Warringah Local Government Area. This suburb has buses as its main form of transportation but some people also use Manly Ferries from Circular Quay. Or the Fast Ferry which travels between Kirribilli and Watsons Bay, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont Bay and Circular Quay. There is an express bus that runs during the morning peak hour time from North Curl Curl via Freshwater to Manly Wharf . Where there are ferries going back to Circular Quay too.

The dwelling types in Freshwater are evenly split between apartments and houses. The majority of homes and apartment complexes were built post-war. But have seen many changes over the last ten years. Mainly due to an increase in newlyweds and parents who choose to renovate older properties. Or tear them down completely so they can build something newer. Newer buildings being erected include both modern looking apartment blocks. A well as some smaller developments recently completed with one-bedroom units. Nowadays walking around you’ll see a variety of different styles. From red brick Victorian homes to sleek contemporary townhouses, all separated by tree lined boulevards.
Shops and Restaurants in Freshwater
Freshwater Village offers plenty of cafes and restaurants. Casual dining with a diverse range of cuisines or fine dining at Pilu (awarded 2 chef hats). It also includes the Harbord Beach Hotel (The Hilton) located 100 meters away from the beach that has an award-winning bistro, as well as being a venue for various entertainment events. The Harbord Diggers Club overlooking what seems like all of the Northern Beaches including my own neighborhood boasts its own bistro and sports bar.
Schools and Educational Facilities in Freshwater
There are two primary schools in Freshwater – Harbord Public School, which strongly engages with the community and St John Baptist Catholic Primary School. Both provide education from kindergarten to grade 6. For higher grades there is a wide selection of high schools available nearby, including public and private options – as well as the Freshwater Senior Campus for grades 11-12 (including course provision through TAFE).

Outdoor activity is pretty popular here – people are often seen jogging or walking along the numerous coastline paths, biking, playing sports like soccer or cricket. There’s even a personal training facility at Freshwater Fitness where you can work out while taking in the breathtaking views of this beach-side town!

Manly, the beaches and harbour, shopping centres—everything is within easy walking distance of Freshwater. You can’t beat its safety or its picture-perfect aqua waters! From its sublime ocean views to its proximate location near schools, churches and shops—there’s an abundance of reasons why so many Aussies (and internationals!) call this quiet coastal enclave their new home.
